Filming

Find your light before buying more kit

Start with a window, your phone and a little experimentation.

A bright workspace

Start beside a window

Try filming in soft natural light. Look at the result on screen and move your setup until the subject is clear.

Check the whole frame

Notice distracting items and bright areas behind you. A small change of angle can be more useful than extra equipment.

Compare two short clips

Film the same shot in two positions. Review the colours, detail and shadows before choosing your setup.

Keep a useful comparison

Record the same short demonstration beside a window, then a little farther away. Compare how clearly you can see the product. Note which position you prefer so you can repeat it.

Watch the product itself

Shiny packaging can reflect the window or your phone. Try a small change of angle and check whether labels and details are readable. Avoid brightening the scene so much that you lose those details.

Take it one step at a time.

Try one suggestion, review what happened and build from there.
